First woven in the 1920s, this USA-made wool blanket has been one of our most popular designs ever since. Chief Joseph led the Nez Perce tribe native to northeastern Oregon in the late 1800s. Widely admired for protecting his people and speaking the truth, he is honored with this design, symbolizing bravery. Bold arrowheads represent the chief's courage, strength and integrity. Reverses for two different looks.
- Cherry (hot pink): special edition! A portion of the proceeds support breast cancer awareness and treatment in Native American communities. Small ribbon design in bottom right corner.
- Twin is 64" x 80"; Queen is 90" x 90"
- King is 108" x 90"; pattern will be rotated 90°
- Napped; fabric is combed for a softer, thicker feel

When the U.S. government ordered the Nez Perce onto reservations in Idaho, Chief Joseph resisted, leading his band toward Canada. Considered a brilliant strategist, he won many battles against great odds. In 1877 he surrendered to save his people from a harsh winter with little food and no blankets. The Chief Joseph design includes Native American symbols of strength and bravery, attributes of this great chief whose courage and determination won him respect in times of peace and war.

<span itemprop="description">We do like this blanket and got it for ourselves to celebrate our 24th wedding anniversary. However we let Pendleton select the embroidered monogram color and location and we are so disappointed. It’s in a terrible location. And overlaps pattern. Really disappointing.</span>

<span itemprop="description">This blanket is plush, soft and beautiful. Unfortunately I returned it because the color was wrong for where I wanted it. It was a lovely blue though. I am learning the difference between Pendleton"s napped and un-napped blankets. The napped ones are divine but are hard to come by as most are un-napped.</span>

We offer 10 colors of the Chief Joseph in twin size, but only 5 are available in Queen and King as well. The blanket is beautiful in any color - we're glad to hear the Aqua is growing on you.

There will not be any tags sewn on the blanket that have the Chief Joseph name, but the information tags will include a &quot;Story&quot; card that has this information - Chief Joseph commemorates one of the Northwest&rsquo;s greatest Nez Perce leaders. The arrowhead pattern symbolizes his courage as he led his tribe away from the US Cavalry, traveling more than 1,400 miles in severe conditions for three months. There, during the Nez Perce War of 1877, Chief Joseph was quoted as saying, &ldquo;I am tired of fighting...It is cold and we have no blankets...my heart is sick and sad. From where the sun now stands, I will fight no more forever.&rdquo;
