Wool and Cotton Blankets for Every Room
Pendleton blankets are crafted from premium materials like soft virgin wool or organic cotton, so whether you need a cozy wool blanket for chilly nights or a lighter weight for the guest room, there's a fit for the space. Each design draws on timeless patterns inspired by the American West, reflecting rugged landscapes and rich cultural traditions. Pair one with Quilts & Bedding or Pillows & Shams to complete the room, and see our approach to wool to learn what makes it perform the way it does.
Built for Everyday Comfort and Camping Trips Alike
Beyond bedding, Pendleton's outdoor blankets are built for camping trips, picnics, and evenings by the fire, offering the same comfort and durability as our indoor collections. Several designs come from our National Park Collection, which has honored America's national parks with distinctive blanket patterns since the early 1900s. Smaller, portable options make great additions to a Throws collection, while options sized for little ones are available under Kids & Baby Blankets. Since care varies by material, check our product care guide before that first wash.
Frequently Asked Questions
Where are Pendleton blankets made?
Most Pendleton wool blankets are woven in Pendleton's historic Pacific Northwest mills in Oregon and Washington. Our jacquard-patterned wool blankets are woven at our original mill in Pendleton, Oregon, which has been producing blankets since 1909. Blanket finishing takes place at our mill in Washougal, Washington, continuing more than a century of American woolen manufacturing.
What is virgin wool?
Virgin wool is wool that has never been previously used, processed or woven into another textile product. Unlike recycled or reclaimed wool, virgin wool comes from new wool fibers and retains the natural strength, resilience and performance characteristics of the fiber.
What does "napped" mean in a wool blanket?
Napped wool has been brushed to raise the fiber ends from the weave, creating a softer, thicker feel and better insulation than an unbrushed finish. Several Pendleton wool blankets, including styles in the National Park Collection and some baby blankets, use a napped finish for extra warmth and softness against skin.
Are wool blankets actually warm?
Yes. Wool fiber traps air within its structure — roughly 80% of wool fabric's volume is trapped air — which makes it an efficient insulator relative to its weight. This lets wool blankets provide significant warmth without excessive bulk.
Is wool water-resistant?
Yes, to a degree. Wool's outer fiber structure repels light moisture, like a rain shower, and can absorb up to 30% of its own weight in water before it starts to feel damp — while still allowing the fabric to breathe.
Can I machine wash a Pendleton wool blanket?
It depends on the item. Check the care tag; some items are washable; others require dry cleaning only. Unless the label specifically says "washable," have your blanket or garment dry cleaned. For machine-washable wool blankets, wash cold on the gentle cycle; hang dry.
