A blanket with a story to tell, based on a work by artist Preston Singletary. The image represents Raven, a shape shifter and trickster. In the story, the old chief who lived at the head of the Nass River kept his precious treasures—the sun, the moon and the stars—in beautifully carved boxes. Raven steals the boxes and makes his escape into the night sky, carrying the sun in his mouth. The sun is a metaphor for enlightenment or knowledge. The ombred background shades meet at the center in vibrant colors of sun and light.
A portion of the proceeds from this blanket will be donated to the American Indian College Fund to help support tribal colleges.

About the artist
Preston Singletary is an internationally renowned glass artist from the Pacific Northwest. His work explores images and legends of his Tlingit heritage, with themes of transformation, animal spirits and shamanism. Preston's work is displayed in museums around the globe, including the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, DC and the The British Museum in London. He is a member of the Board of Trustees for the Seattle Art Museum.

<span itemprop="description">I have several Pendleton blankets. Until this one, I thought they all felt the same. I love the weight and coziness from the heavier-feeling ones, like the Chief Joseph. This blanket has a “softer hand”. It is lighter and more supple. This weave would be great for folks who are sensitive to the rougher feel of the heavier blankets. It’s also beautiful. This is a replacement for the one my ex husband took, when he left. Ha ha</span>

Our patterned blankets are a made using pure virgin wool and cotton. The cotton yarns are used on the warp of the loom for stability and the wool yarns are woven in for the color and pattern. Our solid and plaid bed blankets and throws are 100% wool because they do not require the intricate jacquard looms to weave.

Both our Raven and the Box of Knowledge Blanket and Chief Joseph are woven the same but the finishing is different. Raven is unnapped, which means the surface is left flat so the design shows through, where our Chief Joseph is napped for a fuzzy surface appearance. Many feel this makes the blanket warmer but it really is only a surface finish.

It is 82% Wool and 18% Cotton. The Cotton is exclusive to the warp and the weft is 100% Wool.
