Where are Pendleton blankets made?
Most Pendleton wool blankets are woven in Pendleton's historic Pacific Northwest mills in Oregon and Washington. Our jacquard-patterned wool blankets are woven at our original mill in Pendleton, Oregon, which has been producing blankets since 1909. Blanket finishing takes place at our mill in Washougal, Washington, continuing more than a century of American woolen manufacturing.

What is virgin wool?
Virgin wool is wool that has never been previously used, processed or woven into another textile product. Unlike recycled or reclaimed wool, virgin wool comes from new wool fibers and retains the natural strength, resilience and performance characteristics of the fiber.

What is Eco-Wise Wool?
Made from naturally renewable wool, Eco-Wise Wool is engineered to be machine washable while maintaining its color, structure and distinctive wool character. A polymer resin treatment is used that prevents felting without the use of chlorination. The additives used in the treatment meet OEKO-TEX® standards for green chemistry.

How do I store a wool blanket?
To store a wool blanket and help prevent moth damage, make sure the blanket is clean and completely dry before storing it. Fold it loosely and place it in an airtight storage bag or sealed container in a cool, dry, dark location. Check the blanket periodically for signs of moths or other fabric pests. Proper cleaning, dry storage, and an airtight container can help protect your wool blanket between seasons.

Are wool blankets actually warm?
Yes. Wool fiber traps air within its structure — roughly 80% of wool fabric's volume is trapped air — which makes it an efficient insulator relative to its weight. This lets wool blankets provide significant warmth without excessive bulk.

Is wool water-resistant?
Yes, to a degree. Wool's outer fiber structure repels light moisture, like a rain shower, and can absorb up to 30% of its own weight in water before it starts to feel damp — while still allowing the fabric to breathe.

How durable is Pendleton wool compared to other fabrics?
Wool is one of the most durable natural fibers: It resists tearing and can be bent more than 20,000 times without breaking, roughly four times the durability of other natural fibers. Wool fibers also spring back into shape after stretching or twisting, helping blankets resist wrinkling and hold their form over years of use.

Is wool a sustainable material?
Yes. Wool is a renewable, biodegradable fiber, and its production doesn't require the harsh chemicals used in many synthetic fabrics. Pendleton wool can also be recycled or repurposed at end of life.

Are Pendleton wool blankets itchy?
Pendleton's virgin wool blankets are woven to a finer, denser grade than raw wool, and finishes like Eco-Wise Wool® are treated for a softer feel against skin. Sensitivity varies by person; the cotton or acrylic binding along the edge of most Pendleton blankets also reduces direct skin contact at the border.

Can I machine wash a Pendleton wool blanket?
It depends on the item. Check the care tag; some items are washable; others require dry cleaning only. Unless the label specifically says "washable,” have your blanket or garment dry cleaned. For machine-washable wool blankets, wash cold on the gentle cycle; hang dry.
