a celebration of art and tradition
A multidisciplinary artist, gallery owner and master of traditional Osage ribbonwork, Addie Roanhorse (Osage) creates work deeply rooted in family, community and culture. Her latest collaboration with Pendleton, Middle Waters, celebrates the artistry of her people and the traditions that continue to inspire her.
THE ADDIE ROANHORSE X PENDLETON COLLECTION
The Osage people are known as the Children of the Middle Waters, a name rooted in their creation story. Inspired by the intricate patterns of Osage ribbonwork, Roanhorse's design for this collection features four bands representing sky, earth, land and water.
a life in art
Art has always been part of Addie's life. The daughter of an artist and mother to an artist, she grew up surrounded by creativity and an appreciation for the stories behind it. Today, that influence can be seen throughout her work, from the traditional ribbonwork she practices to the new forms of expression she explores.

a living tradition
For Roanhorse, creativity is deeply connected to family, community, and culture. Two beloved aunts introduced her to the art of Osage ribbonwork, and she built on what they taught her by studying the work of earlier generations. Now, surrounded by a new generation of family members, including the niece and two nephews pictured here, community and tradition remain a key part of her life.

a tradition takes new form
"In our community, we all have roles. Sometimes two or three. Ribbonwork is one of mine," Roanhorse says. Her Middle Waters collection brings the distinctive geometry of Osage ribbonwork to wool, silk, and cotton, offering a new way to experience this traditional art form.
