Additional Information

By the end of the Seminole Wars in 1858, the Seminole population of Florida was reduced from thousands to a few hundred. Most had been driven out of Florida, but small bands remained in the Everglades and Big Cypress Swamp. There they retained their culture of farming, hunting alligators and building thatch-roofed homes called chickees. They traveled in dugout canoes made from cypress logs, visiting trading posts along the Miami River with pelts and egret plumes to trade for supplies. When the first sewing machines arrived, Seminole women began making intricate colorful patchwork by sewing long strips of fabric together. In 1928 the Tamiami Trail, the highway from Tampa to Miami, opened and the Seminole saw new trade opportunities. They took advantage of the tourist market for crafts such as patchwork and palmetto dolls. Their entrepreneurial success along the Tamiami Trail is a testimony to Seminole creativity and resilience.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Just beautiful! This was a stunning addition to my Pendleton blanket collection. It looks beautiful on the camping cot on the screened porch at my Adirondack home. I wanted something warm, comfortable and colorful to brighten a corner ofthe porch. Tamiami fit the bill. Thank you Pendleton for producing another heirloom that honors the traditions of a south east coast Native American tribe.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beautiful, Beautiful! I'm a Pendleton-born girl and consider a Pendleton blanket about the most wonderful gift anyone could possibly receive! I may be a tad biased and sentimental but enjoy gifting a blanket to dear friends, new babies, and family members for special occasions. This exquisite Tamiami Trail Blanket is a wedding gift for my niece in England. It's a new pattern I don't remember seeing before and it's gorgeous! The quality is always life-long-pass-along and the colors and pattern are stunning. She will absolutely LOVE this blanket. I do!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Authentic This blanket was purchased as a present for my brother. When we were very young, our mom took us on a trip to Florida to visit our grandmother and this blanket unearthed memories from long ago. Tamiami was sold out on line but I called the Pendleton store in Maryland (Towson country) and my sales associate, Susan, helped find the blanket in time. So wonderful all the way around. This design is vintage, yet modern.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Captures the spirit of Florida's Native American Patchwork I have long admired the patchwork garments of the Miccosukee and Seminole tribes. This blanket that takes its name for the road that passes through their native land, captures the spirit of their beautiful craft. It is a magnificent and colorful blanket which could easily serve as your bedspread. However, the wool used is too scratchy (rough) to have next to me and my sheet, so I had to put a light blanket between the sheet and the Tamiami Trail blanket.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Even more beautiful & functional We couldn't be happier with the quality of this beautiful blanket. No doubt about the price-quality ratio. It feels like it will last a lifetime. Thank you Pendleton for continuing to make them in the US!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from rainbow colors was the selling point I am pleased to have 4 Pendleton blankets. I purchased this one for a newly decorated room that has rainbow colors. This blanket is more modern and less traditional than some others. I live in the N.E. and some of the traditional patterns don't work for me. This blanket is not my favorite but I appreciate the variety of colors. It's not quite as bright as the photo. I wish the pattern was larger. Still it was my best choice and I do really like it.
