Additional Information
A striking silhouette of a Native American Chief is the central image of this unique, circa 1920s design. The feathered headdress was a ceremonial war bonnet worn only by chiefs and warriors. The war bonnet was common among Plains Indian men–Sioux, Crow, Blackfeet, Cheyenne and Cree–but was seldom worn on the battlefield. Reserved for formal occasions, the golden eagle-feather war bonnet was a spiritual symbol of a man's courage and honor. It was a sign of respect that could be bestowed only by the tribe's elders. The bonnet was also believed to protect the wearer. Later, other Native American tribes adopted the headdress as simply a sign of authority. Today, a brave or good deed may still be rewarded with an eagle feather.

HEROIC CHIEF PILLOW is rated 5.0 out of 5 by 2.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Unique & 2-Sided! I didn't realize when I ordered this pillow, that the opposite side has the same pattern, but a little darker - a gray background with the white Indian silhouette. That was a nice surprise because it's beautiful on both sides. Looks very nice to mix and match with other native design pillows because this one doesn't have a competitive pattern. Very high quality with a leather edge around the pillow. Love it!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from a wonderful addition to my livingroom i bought a real honest-to-goodness chief's blanket at Richardson's Trading Post in Gallup a couple of years ago and bought Pendleton's red, white and blue whatever blanket when i was at the outlet in Seaside last year. When i saw this pillow in the catalog i had to have it, even though the feather headdress isn't consistent with the native american pieces i have already. it is perfect juxtaposed to the true chief's blanket as well as the Pendleton piece. i love it.
