September 2009 - AICF

PORTLAND, OR (Sept. 17, 2009) — Pendleton Woolen Mills and the American Indian College Fund (The Fund), long time philanthropic partners, announce today the expansion of their relationship to raise funds for this worthy scholarship program. Previously sold by The Fund, the exclusive patterned blanket collection will now be licensed to and sold through Pendleton with proceeds continuing to funnel directly to The Fund.

The shift to Pendleton was determined to be the most effective way to continue to raise funds for The Fund while allowing the organization to focus on their mission, which is raising funds for scholarships and tribal colleges. "We are not a retailer," says Rick Williams, CEO of The Fund. "Our role is to serve our students. We are a small nonprofit and want to focus our resources. Having Pendleton assume full responsibility for our fund-raising blankets is a significant way that they will contribute to our overall mission. We continue to be grateful for their support and guidance."

The Fund has earned the AAA rating regarding fund raising dollar expenditures to scholarships vs. administration. During Pendleton's 15 year relationship with The Fund, thousands of students have attended college thanks in part to the sale of Pendleton College Fund blankets. 20th Anniversary Pendleton's involvement will allow sales of The College Fund blanket nationally through their wholesale and retail accounts. Ultimately, the goal is to increase the amount of proceeds raised through this expanded sales opportunity.

In addition, Pendleton will be launching a 20th anniversary College Fund blanket this fall based on a design from world-renowned Pottery Artist Marie Martinez.

"We hope to dramatically increase the exposure of The Fund to a national audience through this new agreement," says Robert Christnacht of Pendleton Home. "We have helped raise more than half a million dollars and look forward to even more donations with this new arrangement."
