Additional Information

A striking silhouette of a Native American Chief is the central image of this unique, circa 1920s design. The original, vintage blanket was discovered and sent to us by Indian trade blanket collector and author Barry Friedman. We are delighted to reproduce this fascinating blanket. The feathered headdress was a ceremonial war bonnet worn only by chiefs and warriors. The war bonnet was common among Plains Indian men—Sioux, Crow, Blackfeet, Cheyenne and Cree—but was seldom worn on the battlefield. Reserved for formal occasions, the golden eagle-feather war bonnet was a spiritual symbol of a man's courage and honor. It was a sign of respect that could be bestowed only by the tribe’s elders. The bonnet was also believed to protect the wearer. Later, other Native American tribes adopted the headdress as simply a sign of authority and perhaps as a nod to tourism. Today, a brave or good deed may still be rewarded with an eagle feather.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nothing quite like it... From the moment you take this out of the box, you know you are in for something special. The design itself if striking along with a depth and quality of wool that is unsurpassed. I keep this at my house in Eagle River, Michigan on the Shores of the Mighty Lake Superior where it sits waiting to keep me warm on the coldest of winter nights and cuts out the chill on a brisk summer night without being too overbearing. The brilliance and depth of the blue, grey and red can not be captured by the photos on this site - they are remarkable with the creamy backdrop. Aside from having this incredible treasure in your home, you will also welcome the spirit of the Great Native American Chief into your home.... Simply amazing.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from 10 Stars! This far and away exceeded my expectations and they were very high going in given the price! I had been searching for a blanket like this for a few years and came across this. I had toyed with buying it for a few months because of the cost. When I finally gave in and bought it I did it thinking it would have to be perfect for me not to return it. It is an incredible work of art, warm, true quality and absolutely gorgeous! No regrets!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Thick and beautiful This was a birthday gift to my husband who is a USN Chief Warrant Officer. He will be going out to sea so I thought it would be a piece of home while away. The ship gets cold at night so the thick wool will be a welcome sight when he goes to his rack at night. All in all it is just as beautiful as it is functional.
