Additional Information

Since the early 1900s, Pendleton Woolen Mills has honored America's National Parks with a collection of distinctive park blankets. Glacier Park National Park Blanket was one of the first. Its historic markings and colors date back to the frontier trading posts. Traders would indicate the weight of the blanket offered in exchange for furs by holding up one finger for each pound. The original blankets incorporated three, four or five black stripes in the design, which indicated the value of the blanket. Colors and variations of the original striped theme have been adapted to reflect distinguishing characteristics of each park and blanket in the collection. National Park Blankets are still woven right here in our Pacific Northwest mills, just as they were nearly 100 years ago.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love it! I had the same blanket on my bed as a small child. Now I use it as a little extra warmth on my king sized bed during the Seattle winters.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Better than the original My favorite blanket. I had a Hudson Bay blanket on my bunk bed as a child. This one is even better IMO! Three Pendleton bed coverings are keeping me warm. Much better than non-allergenic fake down.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Gorgeous Blanket I purchased this blanket for my daughter and her husband for Christmas. They took a trip to Glacier this summer and are completely enamored. I thought this would be a great way to memorialize their vacation. It is a heirloom quality piece. I love it and I am sure they will too!

How much does the blanket weigh?

Asked by: awesomefresh
Unfortunately we do not have the actual weights of our blankets available to us. Our Glacier National Park Blanket is napped for a softer, thicker feel.

Where are the animals depicted on the one I bought at a woolen store in Bemidji MN?

Asked by: Kit Mack
You might be looking for our Crown of the Continent Blanket which was the centennial edition of our Glacier National Park blanket. It was made in 2010 to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Glacier National Park. You can search for item #71362.

I thought this design was originally from the Hudson Bay company. What's the history of these two companies making the same design?

Asked by: Tida
Thank you for remembering where this design originated. Pendleton has a trademark license agreement with Hudson’s Bay Co. to use the multi stripe design to honor Glacier National Park.

Is this wool material good for outdoor, picnic use? I know some types of wool can be very water- and stain- resistant.

Asked by: Tida
Our Glacier Park Blanket isn't treated to be water or stain resistant, and the light color might show dirt and grass more than our other blankets. We do make several blankets designed specifically for picnicking and outdoor use. You can look at our Roll-Up Blanket (Item #70292) which uses our Motor Robe fabric or our Roll-Up Camp Blanket (Item #72512) which uses our Yakima Camp blanket fabric.
