The first Harding jacquard blanket was presented to Florence Harding in 1923 when she and President Harding visited the West to dedicate a portion of the old Oregon Trail. At that ceremony, local Cayuse and Umatilla chiefs presented the First Lady with a Pendleton robe inspired by the already-famous Chief Joseph blanket.

The generous size and thin flowing fabric is a great warm outer layer for transitional weather and also makes a great scarf or head wrap. I like it so much, that four years later, I bought one in a different color story. This is my second black and gold. I can’t say enough about this fabric. It is so versatile. I would like to see some other patterns available in the scarf, such as classic stripes, etc.</span>
