Paul Alan Bennett discovered his distinctive painting style when he purchased a pair of woolen gloves from a street vendor in Greece. The simple, honest design and knit texture were the origin of a style that looks like the ancient art of weaving yet speaks with a contemporary voice. The Blessing was inspired by the occasion of the blessing ceremony for Paul's new painting studio. The ceremony was done by a Native American group as a way of honoring the space and setting the tone for how the space would be used. The interlocking forms of the fireman's carrying pose shows community. Between the arms are different levels of nature. A human couple can also be seen in the top part in the blessing. The outside frame has the four colors that represent the four directions. This tapestry is woven in our own Northwest mill using unique technology capable of translating complex images with subtle gradations in color. The color, detail and depth capture the original painting with extraordinary accuracy. 100% pure virgin wool. 70" x 54".
