POSITION HAS BEEN FILLED

Position Overview:
Responsible for placing, confirming receipt, and tracking progress of orders for the purchase of materials, supplies, equipment, and services used by the Mill Division of Pendleton Woolen Mills. Responsible for ensuring purchase order accuracy and timely delivery. This position is full-time and exempt.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Negotiate with vendors for goods and services, for best possible prices and service
  • Develop new supply sources where vendors are inadequate or a second source is needed
  • Utilize all available resources in locating and procuring replacement parts for obsolete or non-supported equipment
  • Examine bids and award business
  • Check requisitions for appropriate approval and account numbers, as well as receipt of goods and services
  • Make decisions regarding best delivery date and delivery quantities by working closely with department managers
  • Plan delivery schedules with suppliers and carriers and coordinate with warehouses
  • Follow up on deliveries, ensuring timely receipt of materials, supplies, equipment, and services
  • Obtain and review all PO confirmations for accuracy and interface with suppliers to clear up variances
  • Responsible for purchasing plan performance and schedule performance
  • Conduct annual vendor review
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with suppliers
  • Send corrective actions to vendors when there is a problem and resolve as soon as possible
  • Monitor and confirm accuracy status of inventory, both in-house and with suppliers
  • Make determinations regarding proper inventory levels
  • Reconcile billing errors and provide back-up documents for inventory
  • Manage product specifications, compliance requirements, and Safety Data Sheets (SDS)
  • Communicate problem situations and recommend solutions
  • Manage purchasing department in accordance with ISO 9001:2008 standards
  • Perform all duties in accordance with safety rules and regulations
  • Perform other duties as assigned

  • Adaptable to many kinds of situations and able to find creative solutions
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and easily adapt to changing priorities
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate with people at all levels of the organization and with external contacts
  • Proficiency with MS Outlook, Excel, and Word

  • Physical Requirements:
  • Regularly required to sit, stand, and walk
  • Occasionally must move about the production mill

  • Experience/Education:
  • Bachelor's Degree in a business related field
  • 5 or more years of purchasing experience, preferably for a manufacturing business
  • Purchasing Professional (CPP or CPPM) certification preferred
  • Experience with Bellwether purchasing management software, or similar purchasing software
  • Experience with ISO 9001:2008, or equivalent quality management system
  • Or any equivalent combination of education and experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the key responsibilities


  • Work Environment:
  • Office environment within Production Mill, requiring the use of appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), including hearing protection, as necessary within the Mill
