Position Overview:
Pendleton Woolen Mills is a 100+ year old, vertically integrated manufacturer, wholesaler, and multi-channel retailer of quality Apparel and Home Products. The Merchandise Planning Manager position is part of the Planning and Control Department and reports directly to the Senior Demand Planning Manager. The Planning Manager is a detail oriented, energetic individual with strong communication and follow through skills to oversee the Retail and Outlet Divisions merchandise assortment, financial and inventory planning and to ensure on time delivery of quality merchandise in support of sales and profitability goals. This is a full time exempt position.

Principal Accountabilities:
Strategy/Plan Management
Pre -season
  • Collaborate with Merchant partner to develop annual and seasonal strategies that support financial objectives and Target customer.
  • Leads through the successful development, execution and communication of financial and inventory plans and strategies to meet or exceed sales, gross margin, in-stock and inventory goals.
  • Provide "bottom-up" validation of divisional Store assortments
  • Develop merchandise Pre-Season assortment plans by Department, Class, Style count, Color count, units and dollars that align with seasonal financial plan and merchandise strategy; and that reflect store level Target Customer and Marketing plans.
  • Adjust assortment and financial plan following line review to reflect change in strategy and flow of deliveries in accordance with financial targets.
  • Review store allocations with merchandising team before finalization to identify potential inventory issues or sales opportunities

    In -Season
  • Manage initial and in-season financial plans with the objective of maximizing financial objectives.
  • Adjust and maintain merchandise financial plans based on YTD actualization that reflects accurate trend and annual forecast.
  • Manage inventory to reflect Turn and STS financial targets by department. and division. Collaborate with merchant partners to ensure productive inventory.
  • Provide item level analysis for in season management and proposed disposition of non performing product.
  • Analyze current selling and historical data and current trends to identify with risk and opportunity.
  • Perform Ad-Hoc analysis on Class opportunities, pricing, sizing, and various analysis to improve performance and profit for both Retail and Outlet performance.
  • Manage the markdown process and communicate recommendations to management.
  • Recap and analyze actual sales to plan, forecast sales and inventories on a monthly basis.
  • Manage and maintain replenishment programs styles.
  • Oversees divisional flow-forecasting activities
  • Manage Assistant Planner in all areas of defined job responsibilities.

  • Leadership
  • Build constructive and effective relations with broad and diverse group of business partners.
  • Coach and develop staff for growth and future advancement.
  • Participate with the team to maximize performance, support and encourage an open retail environment that encourages sales and drives results.
  • Build inventory management awareness and understanding within department and other teams: Help others understand implications of different strategies and decisions.
  • Actively collaborates with entire planning team on ideas to improve profit and planning process
  • Collaborate as needed with other departments, including IS and Retail, to facilitate on-going improvement and integration of systems and reporting.
  • Ensure that team complies with all departmental processes and Company initiatives / policies.
  • Strategically partner with CSO and DTC Planning Manager to implement improved planning processes, both seasonally and at the offer level.

  • Skills and Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum 3 year Retail buying experience.
  • Proficient in Excel
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Highly motivated, organized and able to adapt to changing priorities and a fast-pace.
  • Ability to create strong working relationships with management and external resources
